Lafutidine is a second generation histamine H2 receptor antagonist having multi model mechanism of action & used to treat gastrointestinal disorders.
Lafutidine is devoid of hypergastrinemia (High gastrin content in blood) which is more frequent & more severe with PPI which may predispose to rebound hypersecretion of gastric acid upon discontinuation of therapy and promote the growth of gastrointestinal tumors
Single dose (10 mg) of lafutidine is able to increase intragastric pH more quickly than a single dose (20 mg) of Rabeprazole
Lafutidine has been found to block the attachment of H. pylori with the gastric cells, thereby preventing diseases like peptic ulcer
